I had a potential new client in my office today who had been diagnosed by her family doctor with Irritable Bowel Syndrome several years ago. When she asked what she should do next, he told her to "go read about it". Wait, what?! There is so much misinformation online: treatments based on outdated science, "it-worked-for-my-sister's-neighbour" stories and down right bad advice. Unfortunately, she did not have a medical degree or background in research to be able to decipher the good from the bad. I am glad you mention the being on a probiotic and feeling worse could be a sign of having SIBO which is one of the common causes of IBS. My mom has been having some tummy trouble recently and doesn't know what it could be. I should ask her how she feels on and off of her probiotic and if she feels worse we should find someone who can help her determine if she has IBS and can offer treatment.
